Hotel Post in Aschheim

Manufacture & modernity
Core refurbishment of 26 guest rooms over two floors
Munich
Mar 2020 to Mar 2021

Building in the existing fabric is the most sustainable measure a builder can take. The effort of setting the old substance to zero in order to subsequently implement a complete new construction costs time and money, but saves the planet.

In the Hotel Post in Aschheim, this aspect was implemented in an exemplary manner, in the building part of the 70s, by renovating two floors with 26 rooms to a high standard. The new room qualities are characterised by a mix of traditional craft like lead glazing, wrought ironwork, clay plaster walls and a modern contrast to this. A light grey exposed screed with long-floored rug, plain oak wall panelling, oak furniture with casual armchairs and chairs create the tension for this. The forged furniture elements are helpers for the guests: open shelves and tableaus, so that nothing is forgotten and a stove rail that makes you think of the cozy corner of the fireplace with a wink. The appreciation of the craftsmanship, manufactures, the genuine materials has always been on the top of the list at this hotel and still is. The ten old leaded glass panels in the double rooms are taken from the fundus, elaborately restored and now shine in a new splendour. The history of the building, the demand for quality and continuity is spatially interpreted and embedded. Bavarian tradition can be very modern without serving the typical clichés. It simply takes courageous builders, good craftsmen and imaginative interior designers!
